TYC Message on recent Earthquake in the Himalayan Region

Tibetan Youth Congress would like to offer our condolences to all those affected by the recent earthquake in Nepal and parts of Tibet and India. The news and images coming out of these affected areas are heartbreaking and we are all very saddened by the devastation. Tibetan Youth Congress stands in solidarity and we send our thoughts and prayers to all those who have lost their loved ones and property as a result of this tragic calamity.

TYC urges all our Regional Chapters to hold prayers and vigils in their areas and show solidarity to our fellow brothers and sisters. TYC also requests all chapters to start an “Earthquake Relief” donation drive. It is very important to help in the healing and rebuilding process. Donations collected should be sent to TYC Centrex headquarters. We will then coordinate the donations received to Nepal and also the other affected regions in Tibet and India.

TYC Centrex will be sending two of our executive board members to assess the situation in Nepal. We are also highly concerned about the situation of Tibetans living in the country. Then we will work together with our Regional Chapters in Nepal as well as the local government and NGO’s to assist with relief and rehabilitation efforts. TYC is also closely monitoring the situation in earthquake-affected parts of Tibet and India.

Our spiritual leader HH the 14th Dalai Lama always reminds us to practice, Compassion in Action. Keeping this message in our hearts and minds we believe that at this time of need, it is important for us to take action and help those in need and support theTYC message earthquake relief efforts.

TYC Refutes China’s White Paper

TYC refutes China's WPDharamshala April 24: In response to the White Paper released by the State Council Information office of China on April 15, Tibetan Youth Congress the largest pro independence organization in exile states that this White Paper, is full of ‘White lies’ and the allegations made by Chinese government against TYC are baseless and dishonest.

Instead of trying to genuinely resolve the issue of Tibet, the Beijing Government has once again resorted to making blatant false attacks against His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the TYC. As the Tibetan movement gains momentum and support from people all over the world, there is a growing desperation within the communist camp in China. Their propaganda attempts and disingenuous portrayal of Tibet ⎯ historic or the present situation inside Tibet as well as China, have failed to convince the world community at large. Their charm offensive use of soft power as a strategy in international politics has failed miserably as the world continues to remain distrustful of the Beijing Government. What has worked for China to date is its use of economic and military influence. On the contrary the growing popularity and global recognition of His Holiness the Dalai Lama coupled with the international support and sympathy for the Tibetan movement has only grown and intensified. Additionally, the spirit of the Tibetan people and the work of TYC have remained steadfast, which causes China grave anxiety and paranoia.

“It appears the Chinese government and their leaders are scrambling to justify their illegal occupation of Tibet”, says TYC President Tenzing Jigme. “Since its inception in 1970, TYC has been very successful in exposing the truth about China’s wrong policies, mobilizing and organizing the Tibetan freedom movement in exile – that is the reason why Beijing every now and then resorts to accusing TYC of being a terrorist organization and making false baseless accusations against the organization,” states Jigme.

The White Paper states; For years, the TYC not only schemed and incited ill-informed people to engage in violence, but also actively trained armed and reserve forces. They set up military training bases in Dharamsala, India, and established the “Tibetan Freedom Fighters Association” to carry out armed sabotage and sent people to contact international terrorist organizations to seek mutual support. TYC has had a hand in many incidents of violence and terror in Tibet and other places in China.

We have consistently maintained that our organization and movement are based on the principles of non-violence. These kinds of accusations hold no grounds. We demand the Beijing government either stops making false charges or provide concrete evidence of such charges.

China’s illegal occupation of Tibet and their current hardline and oppressive policies are also the sole reasons for the unrest inside Tibet as epitomized by the Self Immolations. Since 2009, 139 Tibetans have self-immolated inside Tibet. If China is really sincere about solving the issue of Tibet, they must make an honest evaluation of their current policies and stop making baseless attacks on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and TYC. TYC is an independent and democratic organization whose activities and policies have no interference from outside.

TYC warns China that its continued attempts at misleading the world with the release of White Papers containing serious distortion of facts will not only cause Tibetans to endure their resistance and further intensify the struggle but also lead to further abomination of China by international community.

TYC Activists Storm Chinese Embassy on Tibetan Uprising Day

Delhi March 11: Over a hundred Tibetan Youth Congress activists held a protest outside the Chinese Embassy in Delhi yesterday and were detained at Chanakyapuri Police Station. March 10, 2015 marks 56 years since the Lhasa Uprising in 1959. On that day, Tibetans stood up against the Chinese government with the courage and determination to proclaim and protect the Tibetan Government and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Thousands of Tibetans lost their lives and therefore TYC commemorates this day, and pays our deepest respect and homage to our brothers and sisters inside Tibet and in exile who have sacrificed their lives through various forms of protests against China’s illegal occupation of our nation and vow to continue our work for the freedom and independence of Tibet and the Tibetan people until the Tibet issue is resolved.

TYC states 10 March is a day when we reflect upon history and the events that unfolded in Lhasa. We must understand what the uprising was for and most importantly when we observe this Tibetan National Uprising Day, we must work to fulfill the wishes and demands of those that sacrificed their lives for Tibet.10 March is also a day to remember who we are and where we are headed to and as a Tibetan to pledge your commitment and responsibility for your country – and in doing so, understand that unity, optimism and strategy lies at the core of our struggle.

“We want to send a clear message to the Chinese government that as long as the illegal occupation of Tibet continues, as long as the oppression continues, the discrimination continues and Tibetan people are denied human rights and freedom, our resistance will continue, our revolution will go on and we will assert our rights for the freedom and complete independence of Tibet”, said Tenzing Jigme, President of Tibetan Youth Congress who was also arrested at the protest in Delhi.

TYC calls upon Tibetans living in exile and inside Tibet to remain united and steadfast in our movement. The Chinese government will never be able to break the will and spirit of the Tibetan people. Tibetans in Tibet and in exile remain more defiant than ever and today we send a message to China that until and unless the Beijing government changes its stance on Tibet, the Tibetan people will continue to rise and resist and our Revolution will grow stronger and bigger.

Tibetan Youth Congress is the largest Tibetan NGO in exile working for the freedom and independence of the Tibetan people. TYC has more than 35,000 members and 88 chapters worldwide. Today, TYC chapters across the world are holding protests in Chinese Consulates to condemn China’s illegal occupation of Tibet and demands Tibet’s freedom.
