As per the resolution adopted on the 18th North America annual meeting, the 19th annual meeting was headed by TYC Centrex and organized by RTYC San Francisco from 26 – 28 November 2021. TYC President Mr. Gonpo Dhundup and Organizational Secretary, Mr. Penpa Tsering led the 19th North America RTYC Annual Meeting.
The three-day meeting was inaugurated with the presence of TYC former President and current Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, North America Mr. Tenzing Jigme. The North America Working Committee was attended by six regional chapters in the North American region and was participated by 20 delegates.
The delegates discussed on 10 major agendas and successfully adopted 22 resolutions.
The three days North America Regional Tibetan Youth Congress annual meeting concluded with a special session with activists from Uyghur, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southern Mongolia, and Mainland China.
Tibetan Youth Congress along with RTYC Dharamshala organized a Basketball Match at Central Institute for Higher Studies, Sarah to extend our heartfelt Thank You to Enes Kanter for resisting CCP’s authority and speaking about genocide, rape, torture, and murder by CCP on 30th October 2021.
The basketball match was played between members of the Tibetan Youth Congress and Students of the Central Institute for Higher Studies, Sarah. With just a slight difference in the score, the trophy was won by members of TYC. The edited video of the Thank You Enes Kanter Basketball Match posted on our social media was later reposted by Enes Kanter on his official social media platform.
After the match, TYC President Mr. Gonpo Dhundup expressed gratitude to the professional basketball player Enes Kanter of Boston Celtics, National Basketball Association for his invaluable support for the cause of Tibet and urged for his continued support.
On 23rd October 2021, TYC President Gonpo Dhundup participated in the International Union of Socialist Youth Global Seminar in Stockholm, Sweden with participants from more than 13 countries. During the seminar, TYC President Mr. Gonpo Dhundup emphasized and highlighted the critical situation in Tibet and briefed on the activities carried out by TYC.
On the 2nd day, TYC President participated in a panel discussion jointly organized by the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) and the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY). The day-long program has participants from more than 24 countries. President Gonpo Dhundup highlighted the Importance and Urgency of safeguarding Tibet’s environment.
Tibetan Youth Congress in collaboration with Bharat Tibbat Sanyog Manch and the Voice for the Voiceless launched a year-long Martyr Memorial Project, in memory of all the 159 martyrs who selflessly set themselves on fire for the cause of Tibet and to stand in solidarity with all their family and loved ones.
The Martyr Memorial Project aims to organize protest events on all the dates of the self-immolations as a mark of remembrance and solidarity with the self-immolator across 127 nations. This year-long project also aims at creating awareness on the critical situation inside Tibet and the need for urgency for action by the international communities.
The launch event was held on 12th October 2022 at the Imperial Heights Clarks Inn Hotel, Kanyara. Shri. Indresh Kumar, RSS member and founder of BTSM and Shri. Pankaj Goyal, General Secretary of BTSM graced the event with BTSM representatives from 40 different chapters.
TYC held its 50th Working Committee Meeting from 8 – 12 October 2022 at the Imperial Heights Clarks Inns Hotel, Kanyara. A total of 89 executive members from 34 regional chapters of TYC have gathered for the five-day meeting.
The 50th WCM discussed on 12 agendas and after four days of discussions and deliberations, the delegates successfully passed 27 resolutions relating to the Security of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, TYC’s Political stand and its activities and the future activities of TYC.
The 50th WCM concluded simultaneously with the Golden Jubilee celebration at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
The TYC’s Golden Jubilee celebration is being marked on 7th October 2021, a year later as the celebrations have been postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was held at the Imperial Height Clark’s Inn Hotel, Kanyara. The celebration is being marked parallel with the 50th Working Committee Meeting of the TYC.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Tenzin Geyche Tethong, founding member, first President of TYC, and Former Kalon as the Chief Guest of the ceremony. And Shri. Kishan Kapoor, Member of Parliament, BJP and Shri Arjit Nehria, President of the Indo-Tibet Friendship Association as the Special Guests of the event. Former TYC Centrex were invited to the event as guests and Dharamshala Tibetan Settlement Officer, Representatives of various NGOs, Monasteries and Schools were also invited to the program.
The ceremony began with a singing of Tibetan and Indian national anthem and the guests and delegates observed a minute of silence for all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.
The Chief Guest and Special Guests launched three books, The history of TYC, Agendas and Resolutions of TYC in WCMs and GBMs and Biographies of the former TYC executive members published by the Office of the Central Executive Committee, Tibetan Youth Congress.
The first President of the TYC and former Kalon (Kasur)Tethong Tenzin Geyche made the remarks at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the largest Tibetan non-governmental organization in exile that “nothing good came after the Chinese occupation of Tibet.”
“If the sizeable Tibetans in exile cannot live in unity, it’s a shame,” he added.
However, he expressed his firm belief in the indomitable spirit of the Tibetans inside Tibet and that of the TYC’s leadership and campaigns and said that despite the present grim situation under Chinese rule, he believes there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Mr. Gonpo Dhundup, the President of TYC highlighted the significance of TYC as an organization in the Tibetan struggle for freedom and the contributions it has made since its humble beginnings 51 years ago in 1970 be it political campaigns or social services.
“Because of TYC’s active political engagements, the so-called Chinese Communist Party of China has labeled us as a terrorist organization. However, the fact remains that TYC only seeks the complete independence of Tibet through a non-violence approach.” Said Mr. Gonpo Dhundup.
BJP MP Shri Kishan Kapoor who attended the event as the special guest extended his greetings on TYC’s 50th founding anniversary on behalf of India and the Indian people and applauded the TYC for nourishing leaders for the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) including the likes of former Sikyong and declared that the future of the CTA is bright.
The BJP MP from Kangra concluded by stating that like all the dictators that came before in the world’s history and perished, the Chinese regime under its dictator Xi Jinping too will perish and that Tibet will regain its independence.
In Shri. Arjit Nehria’s remarks, he focused on fighting for independence of Tibet as he believes that the security of India lies in the independence of Tibet. He condemned the Communist Party of China and applauded TYC President, Mr. Gonpo Dhundup for his activism and motivating Tibetan Youths to take part in the Tibetan Freedom Struggle.
The morning program concluded with a special lunch to the guests and delegates.
In the afternoon of the same day, some former TYC executive members along with the delegates from the Regional chapters had a three hour long productive discussions on the continuity of TYC as an organization striving for Independence of Tibet.
As a part of the concluding ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebration and the 50th Working Committee Meeting (WCM), a Tibetan cultural performance was presented by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) at TIPA hall on 12th October 2021. Shri. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Himachal Pradesh graced the event along with Shri. Indresh Kumar, leader of RSS and founder of BTSM, District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other dignitaries. The President of the Central Tibetan Administration, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Mrs. Dolma Tsering and the Chief Justice Commissioner, Mr. Sonam Norbu Dagpo also attended the evening cultural program. The show was wrapped off with a grand dinner for the dignitaries at TIPA Hall.
Tibetan Youth Congress Speaking Tour for the year 2019-2020 began by visiting the Tibetan Sweater sellers located across India and bringing them closer to the Tibetan Freedom Movement by giving talks on the roles and responsibilities of being Tibetan and the legacies and relevance of the Tibetan Youth Congress. During this Speaking Tour, Tibetan Youth Congress also focused on raising funds for the 50th Year founding anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress in 2020.
Tibetan Youth Congress President Gonpo Dhundup and Information Secretary Lhamo la visited all the Tibetan Traders Associations in Rajasthan. Likewise, Vice-President Lobsang Tsering and Accountant Tsamchoe visited and covered areas around Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Orissa. Sonam Tsering, General Secretary of TYC, and Tenzin Norzom, Researcher covered the state of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Joint Secretary Tsewang Rabgyal la and Cultural Secretary Yeshi Choephel la visited Gujurat, Maharastra, and Telangana.
With Tibetan Youth Leadership Training and Social Service Programs ahead of us, TYC regrouped the members for the Speaking Tour. Gonpo Dhundup, President of TYC visited Winter sweater shops around Delhi while Vice President Lobsang Tsering and Information Secretary Lhamo covered the shops in Jharkhand. Joint Secretary Tsewang Rabgyal and Tibetan Researcher Ngawang Yarphel visited Tibetan shops around Haryana and Punjab.
The Speaking Tour and FundRaising drive for the 50th Year Golden Jubilee celebration was a grand success and we’d like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has supported us.
The celebration of the 49th anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress is an occasion to look back, reminisce and reassess its achievements. The 49th founding anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress started with the meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 50th Year Golden Jubilee Celebration. This is the first meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 50th Year Founding anniversary celebration.
The members of the Organizing Committee include TYC Former Centrex (Sonam Tsering la, Topgyal la, Sherab Woeser la, Tsultrim Dorjee la, Ngawang Lobsang la, Tashi Targyal la) and RTYC Executives ( Lodoe Palden la, Tenzin Choedar la, Tharchin la and Rinchen Lhamo la).
On 1st October 2019, TYC activists staged an aggressive campaign at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi to condemn the 70th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. More than 50 activists stormed the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi to protest against the repressive and authoritarian policies in Tibet under Chinese rule. The protestors were immediately arrested and were taken into custody at Mandir Marg Police Station and released at 6 PM on the same day.
Tibetan Youth Congress organized a solidarity march for Hong Kong from Connaught Place to Jantar Mantar on 30th August 2019 in New Delhi. Around three hundred activists were seen wearing black clothes and holding umbrellas with different slogans, in support of the anti-government protests in Hong Kong.
The protest march was graced by Mr. Vijay Kranti, a journalist and long-time supporter of the Free Tibet Movement, and Dr. Kovind, Co-founder of the Go Green organization. TYC also successfully handed a letter stating four of our demands for the solidarity march to the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
