Inauguration ceremony of the 11^th Tawang Yatra organized by BTSM

On 18th November 2022, the President of the Tibetan Youth Congress, Mr. Gonpo Dhondup, and the General Secretary, Mr. Sonam Tsering, participated in the 11th Tawang Tirth Yatra organized by the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch (BTSM).

The four-day rally and protest began in Guwahati, Assam, and concluded in Tawang. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kungo Tsering Dolma, a member of the Tibetan Parliament, and Kungo Tenzin Rinchen, the Tenzingang Tibetan Settlement Officer.

FROMER TYC CENTREX DEMISE AND CONDOLENCES

Sadly, on 11th October 2022, Ven. Yeshi Choedak, TYC former Centrex member passed away, leaving the Tibetan community mourning his loss. His untimely departure came after he dedicated many years to serving the Tibetan cause. Although he retired prematurely on 1st November 2010, his contributions and commitment to the Tibetan community were evident throughout his tenure.

Ven. Yeshi Choedak made significant contributions to the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) during his tenure. From 1989 to 1990, he served as the Cultural Secretary of the TYC, playing a crucial role in promoting Tibetan culture and heritage within the organization. Later, from 1991 to 1992, he took on the position of Vice President, further contributing to the TYC’s activities and goals.

The news of Ven. Yeshi Choedak’s passing was unexpected, causing a sense of sorrow among the members of the Tibetan Youth Congress. In response to this tragic event, the TYC offered our heartfelt condolences to his family, acknowledging the immense loss we experienced.

Additionally, the Tibetan Youth Congress sent prayers and well wishes for Ven. Yeshi Choedak’s immediate swift rebirth as a Ganchenpa.

AUSTRALIA TIBET COUNCIL GROUP VISIT THE CENTRAL TIBETAN YOUTH CONGRESS (TYC) OFFICE

On 11th November 2022, a group from the Australia Tibet Council visit the Central Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) Office. During their visit, the TYC President, Gonpo Dhondup, engaged in close interaction with the group and provided them with a comprehensive briefing about the་Tibetan Youth Congress, as well as the current critical situation inside Tibet.

The meeting served as a platform for the TYC President to share valuable insights into the Tibetan Youth Congress’s history, outlining its founding principles, objectives, and the significance of its activism. This allowed the visitors from the Australia Tibet Council to gain a deeper understanding of the TYC and other NGO’s role in advocating for the rights and freedom of Tibetans.

Additionally, President Gonpo Dhondup highlighted the ongoing critical situation inside Tibet, shedding light on the challenges faced by Tibetans under Chinese rule. This discussion covered various issues such as human rights violations, cultural suppression, and the struggle for freedom.

On 27^th October 2022, the Central Tibetan Youth Congress Office was visited by Ms.Maggie Dougherty, a professional staff member of the Senate foreign relations committee; Mr. Matt Squeri, staff director of CECC; and Ms. Tenchoe Gyaltso la, ICT Interim Vice President and former member of the Tibetan Parliament met with Tibetan NGOs.

The president, Mr. Gonpo Dhondup with four other representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations welcomed foreign dignitaries; and highlighted critically emerging issues of Tibet inside Tibet.

TYC ORGANIZED A PROTEST RALLY TO VOICE OUR CONCERNS ABOUT THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 20TH NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY IN BEIJING

On 16th October 2022, the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) organized a protest rally to voice our concerns about the commencement of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing. The protest took place in collaboration with the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Dharamshala and received support from the general public in huge participation.

The purpose of the protest was to draw attention to the ongoing critical situation inside Tibet, which continues to deteriorate under the Chinese repressive policies. The Tibetan Youth Congress demanded that the Chinese Communist Government cease committing acts of genocide under the guise of their Zero-Covid policy.

The protest began with a march from McLeod Ganj to Dharamshala, and the rally was led by four students wearing Covid-kits. This symbolic representation aimed to draw attention to the suffering of Tibetans who continue to face restrictions imposed by China and the inadequate facilities provided to them during quarantine.

During the protest, the President of the Tibetan Youth Congress delivered a powerful speech condemning China for mistreating Tibetans during the Covid lockdowns in Tibet. The speech emphasized the need for China to address the concerns and welfare of the Tibetan people.

By organizing this street protest, the Tibetan Youth Congress sought to raise awareness about the ongoing issues faced by Tibetans under Chinese rule and to put pressure on the Chinese Communist Government to address these concerns. The event demonstrated the TYC’s commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of Tibetans and our determination to speak out against injustice.

52ND FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY WITH RTYC DHASA AT TYC HEAD OFFICE

On 7th October 2022, the Central Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) celebrated its 52nd founding anniversary in collaboration with the regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Dharamshala. The event took place at the Central Executive Committee Office of the Tibetan Youth Congress and included several activities to commemorate the occasion.

The celebrations began with ritual prayer recitation, symbolizing the spiritual aspect of Tibetan culture and the TYC’s commitment to promoting Tibetan values and traditions. Following the prayers, a cake cutting ceremony took place, signifying the joyous nature of the anniversary. Fragrant incense was also burned, adding a traditional and sacred element to the event.

Later in the day, the TYC Centrex members were invited as guests to the Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament final, which was organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Dharamshala. The tournament was a significant success, attracting numerous teams who participated in the competition.

Among the distinguished guests was Kungo Gyari Dolma la, the Minister of Security, who attended as the Chief Guest.

Overall, the 52nd founding anniversary celebration of the Central Tibetan Youth Congress was a memorable event filled with prayer, cultural traditions, sports, and the presence of esteemed guests. It served as a testament to the TYC’s ongoing commitment to the Tibetan cause and the empowerment of Tibetan youth.

TIBETAN YOUTH CONGRESS, REGIONAL TIBETAN YOUTH CONGRESS DELHI, ROHINI STAGED A PROTEST OUTSIDE CHINESE EMBASSY IN NEW DELHI

On 1st October 2022, Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) along with RTYC Delhi and RTYC Rohini Tibetan college students staged a protest outside the Chinese embassy in New Delhi to express our concerns regarding the pandemic crisis in Tibet and the Chinese government’s handling of the situation.

During the protest, our activists wore black shirts as a symbol of solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet. Our demands included an end to the alleged genocide taking place in Tibet and the cessation of the Zero Covid policy. The protesters sought to draw attention to the issues faced by Tibetans and to hold China accountable for its actions.

As a result of the protest, our activist were detained by the police and taken to the Mandir Marg police station. The actions taken by our protesters were aimed at raising awareness and calling for change regarding the situation in Tibet. The demonstration reflected the concerns and aspirations of the Tibetan Youth Congress and our commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of Tibetans inside Tibet.

VIRTUAL WEBINAR TO SHED LIGHT ON THE BACKGROUND OF CHINA’S COLONIALISM

TYC organized a virtual webinar on 1st October to shed light on the background of China’s colonialism and to highlight the aspirations of its colonized countries, including Tibet, East Turkistan, Southern Mongolia, and Hong Kong. The webinar aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by these regions and to discuss the importance of supporting their struggles for freedom and human rights.

The webinar featured esteemed speakers who provided valuable insights and perspectives on the respective situations in each of the occupied territories. Mr Salih Hudayar, the Prime Minister of the East Turkistan Government-in-exile, shared the experiences and aspirations of the Uyghur people in East Turkistan. Mr Engebatu Togochog, the Director of the Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center, provided valuable insights into the plight of the Mongolian people in Southern Mongolia. Kai Mueller, the Executive Director of the International Campaign for Tibet in Germany, shared his expertise on the Tibetan cause. TYC President Gonpo Dhondup also contributed to the webinar, providing an overview of the Tibetan struggle and the role of TYC in advocating for Tibetan rights. Mr. Vijay Kranti, the co-host and the long-time friend of TYC and supporter of Tibet moderated the panel.

The webinar aimed to educate the public about the colonial practices and human rights violations perpetrated by China in these countries. It sought to foster understanding and solidarity among various pro-democracy movements and to inspire collective action in support of freedom, human rights, and self-determination for the colonized peoples. By bringing together speakers and participants from different organizations and backgrounds, the webinar provided a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and strengthening the global movement against China’s colonial policies.

TYC PRESIDENT AND THE PERSIDENT OF TIBETAN YOUTH ASSOCIATION IN EUROPE MEETING

On 25th September 2022, TYC President Gonpo Dhondup had a meeting with the President of the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe (TYAE), Dalha la, along with other board members. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategies and plans for strengthening the freedom struggle and promoting the Tibetan cause through joint actions in the future.

During the meeting, the participants engaged in fruitful discussions on various aspects related to the Tibetan freedom movement. They shared ideas, insights, and experiences to enhance their collective efforts in advocating for the rights and aspirations of the Tibetan people. The meeting provided an opportunity for TYC and TYAE to collaborate and work together towards common goals.

After the meeting, TYAE board members hosted a lunch, fostering camaraderie and strengthening the bond between the two organizations. Such interactions and exchanges of ideas are essential for maintaining unity and solidarity within the Tibetan diaspora and for advancing the cause of Tibet.

PARTICIPATED PROTEST AT THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL(UNHRC)

TYC President Gonpo Dhundup actively participated in a protest campaign organized by the Tibetan Community of Switzerland & Liechtenstein at the office of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The purpose of the protest was to urge the UNHRC to address the Tibet issue and hold China accountable for its actions.

During the protest, the participants expressed their objection to China’s Zero Covid Policy and raised concerns about the genocidal system implemented in Tibet. They demanded an end to the genocide in Tibet and called for an immediate halt to the brutal treatment of Tibetans by the Chinese authorities, particularly during the Covid outbreak in Tibet. The protesters firmly emphasized that Tibet belongs to Tibetans and reiterated their genuine aspiration for justice and freedom for the Tibetan people.

By participating in this protest campaign, TYC President Gonpo Dhundup and other demonstrators aimed to draw international attention to the critical situation in Tibet and advocate for the protection of Tibetan rights and freedoms. The protest aimed to bring awareness to the UNHRC and to urge them to take action in addressing the ongoing human rights violations in Tibet.
