The Regional Tibetan youth congress of Darjeeling organized a candle light vigil on 21st august, 2008 in Darjeeling in support of the ongoing hunger strike by the brave Tibetans in New Delhi. A large number of Tibetans, young and old gathered at chowrasta in the evening. A short prayer was held for the hunger strikers and the procession then snaked its way through the main streets of the town. As usual, Pamphlets were distributed to the tourists specially the foreigners updating them on the issues in Tibet and the demand put forward by TYC.
The regional Tibetan youth congress along with the Tibetan people of Darjeeling fully support the indefinite hunger strike "without food and water" which has been in progress since 28th July 2008.
Following are the demands put forward by the TYC
- Immediate end to the brutal suffering of Tibetans in Tibet and release all political prisoners immediately.
- Prove to the world that H.H. Gendun choekyi Nyima (the 11th Panchen Rimpoche) is safe and healthy.
- Allow international fact finding delegation, media people and humanitarian groups to assess the ground reality and current situation inside Tibet.
- Stop the dumping of nuclear and toxic waste in Tibet and stop plundering of Tibet's natural resources.
- Stop the demographic aggression of han settlers into Tibet
RTYC Darjeeling chapter requet every citizens and govenments to stand up against China's appalling Human Rights record in Tibet and not to remain a mute spectator to the suffering of the six million Tibetans. We appeal to all the freedom loving people of the world to raise your voice in support to the peace loving Tibetans and help in the restoration of Free TIBET.
